Animals often 2 to know that an earthquake is coming, and they show their fear by 3 in strange ways. Some animals make a lot of noise before an earthquake. Dogs that are usually 4 start to bark. Horses on farms run 5 in circles. Mice leave their 6 and run away. Cows give less milk. In a town in Italy, cats ran down the street in a group. That happened 7 a few hours before an earthquake. In San Francisco, a man kept tiny pet frogs. One Sunday, 8 of the frogs jumped around more than ever. They all made loud noises, like bigger frogs. 9 an earthquake hit the city that night. Walking sharks(鲨鱼)
In 2006, scientists found a new kind of shark off the coast of Indonesia. It can "walk" with its fins along the coral reefs. These walking sharks are about 1 to 1. 2 metres long. If they are surprised by something, they can swim away using their fins.
The platypus(鸭嘴兽)
The platypus is found along the rivers and lakes of eastern Australia. It lays eggs like a bird, has webbed feet like a frog, a bill like a duck and is as poisonous as a snake! We are pleased to hear that it spends much of its life underground.
An unusual dolphin
In 2006, a Japanese fisherman caught an unusual dolphin. It has an extra set of fins(额外的一套鱼鳍)near its tail, about the size of human hands. Scientists say that its extra fins could be the remains of back legs. This tells us that dolphins were once four-footed land animals. Scientists believe that as they spent more and more time in the water, their back legs slowly disappeared(消失)
A simple honk(汽车喇叭声)from the bus is one part of a secret code(秘密代码)between the driver and students living in a far-away village in Wanzhou district, Chongqing. Seeing a schoolbag hanging from the doorknob of an old house along the road, the bus driver drives toward the roadside and makes a honk to answer the "code". Then a boy runs outside, takes the schoolbag, and gets on the bus.
The boy's parents work far from home, leaving him in the care of his grandmother. The boy is in the ninth grade this year. He comes home every Friday and goes back to school in the city every Sunday. To make the journey easier, he and the driver, Cheng Lin, have developed a special "code". When the boy's schoolbag is hanging outside the house, it "tells" Mr Cheng, "Today, it's time to go back to school. I need to catch the bus. "The parents of the boy are deeply moved(感动)to hear this.
Mr Cheng has been driving the Luotian to Wugiao Nan Station bus for many years. There are many left-behind children on this bus line. Knowing the importance of his role in their lives, he has paid more attention on Fridays and Sundays.

The Tianchi Meteorological Station is one of China's best weather stations. It is at an altitude(海拔)of about 2, 620 meters and is about 150 meters away from Tianchi Lake on the top of Changbai Mountain. Weather workers there enjoy wonderful sights, but also work under terrible weather conditions. The average temperature there is -7. 3℃ with the lowest of -44. 0℃. Every year, there are strong winds in about 269 days with some up to 74 kilometers per hour. Snow can be seen in about 250 days. And there are 56 days of thunderstorms.
The station was set up in 1958 to collect more weather information. Since it was set up, many workers have done their part in collecting weather information from Changbai Mountain. Jiao Xiangzhao, 53, is one of them. He has worked there for 24 years. Over the past years, conditions have improved a lot. Since 2010, new equipment has been used at the station. In 2016, a new building of 1, 000 square meters was built. Workers could work more safely there.
Working at the station may be hard but important. Jiao feels happy that he can help to change the world for the better through his job.

As students, we should learn how to ourselves from being hurt when an earthquake happens. First, we should keep and get out of the building as soon as possible. Shouting and isn't useful. Second, the buildings may fall down an earthquake. We must find a place to stay in. We can hide under a strong desk a table, holding schoolbags over our if we're in the classroom. And we are on the playground, don't move, and don't stand windows, power lines or tall trees. Finally, remember to use the lift to run away when an earthquake happens.
