Over the last 40 years, there have been many changes in children's lives. I have four brothers and sisters. We used to play board games in the living room and spend days in the street with friends, and ride bikes to tour around the town.

These days, in the UK, great changes have been in the nature of childhood greatly. Firstly, families are getting smaller, as more families have only one child. It's common for both parents to work outside, and it seems that no one could possibly afford (付得起) to have more than one child. As a result, today's children spend much of their time alone. Another great change is that children today spend a lot of their free time at home. That's because parents worry about real or imagined dangers, so they wouldn't let their children play outside by themselves. Finally, the way children play is completely different. Almost every home has at least one computer and many children have a mobile phone. Mobile games have replaced (代替) board games and other interesting activities of my childhood. However, the fact is that playing mobile games alone can make people feel lonelier.

Do these changes mean that children today have a less relaxing childhood than I had? I believe that they do.

    1. (1) The writer thinks his/her childhood is very relaxing according to the first paragraph.
    2. (2) Four changes about the nature of childhood in the UK are mentioned in the passage.
    3. (3) Today children spend plenty of their time at home because every home has one computer.
    4. (4) The writer thinks these changes that children today have is less relaxing than the childhood he used to have.
    5. (5) This passage probably comes from a science report.

Chopsticks are a pair of small equal-length sticks, usually made of wood, used for eating Asian food. Chopsticks are mainly used in China. And it is believed that the first chopsticks were developed in China. Chopsticks play an important role in Chinese food culture. Chinese chopsticks are usually 9 to 10 inches long. They are round on the eating end which means heaven (天), and the other end is square which means earth. The appearance of chopsticks said goodbye to those days when our Chinese ancestors(祖先)had to use their hands to eat.

Besides, the use of chopsticks has also been a part of Chinese food culture. There are some taboos that you must pay great attention to when you use chopsticks. Firstly, don't use them to hit your bowl or plate. Secondly, never use them to point at others. Thirdly, don't put them in different food without taking something. Fourthly, don't cross the chopsticks on the table. And lastly, don't leave your chopsticks standing in the rice. Chinese people do this only when they honor (尊重) the dead.

Nowadays, chopsticks have many new usages. For example, you can buy a pair as a gift to your friends and relatives. In Chinese, it reads "筷子", which means having sons soon, so a newly-married couple will be very happy to accept it as their wedding gift.

    1. (1) In which country are chopsticks mainly used?
      A . France. B . Australia. C . China.
    2. (2) What did our Chinese ancestors use to eat according to the passage?
      A . Hands. B . Chopsticks. C . Spoons.
    3. (3) What does the underlined word "taboos" mean in Chinese?
      A . 用途 B . 禁忌 C . 说明
    4. (4) Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A . Chopsticks can be used as gifts. B . The round end means earth, while the other square end means heaven. C . You can use the chopsticks to point at others when you are angry.
    5. (5) What can we learn from the passage?
A . The first chopsticks were developed in China. B . Chopsticks play an important role in Western food culture. C . There aren't any taboos when you use chopsticks.

First, I think an interest in English is very important. When I was in Grade One, we had a new subject—English. It was fresh for me. I was interested in it, so I worked hard at it. Soon we had an English exam and I got a very good mark. How happy I was! After that, I learned English harder and harder. Our English teacher often teaches us English songs, and the songs sound nice. I often think how interesting English is!

Second, I think English is a foreign language. I should learn it well in the following ways: listen to the teacher carefully, speak bravely, read aloud and have a good vocabulary. Then practice again and again, never be tired. And I have a good habit: asking whenever I have a question.

Now I have learned English for more than two years. I always keep the first in our school. From these words, I hope every student can learn English well.

A . We should be interested in English. B . We should be strict with English. C . We should be proud of learning English.
