Huss said he never wanted to be an educator, but his seventh-grade teacher felt otherwise. "I remember Mrs. Collier telling me, ‘You will be such a great teacher someday,' and I laughed at her. It is not going to happen, but here Lam," he said.

Huss ended up starting as Ione Elementary School's janitor 30 years ago. He then spent 19 years there as a teacher and now is starting his first year as the school principal.

For Huss, it's about the opportunity to change a child's life. "Believe in every child. I'm here to help them see themselves in a different light, because that's what people have done for me my whole life," he said. Many centuries ago, all people had to gather seeds and plants to eat. They did not know how to farm or raise animals for food. We call them the Stone Age people because they used stone tools and arms.

You may feel surprised in the world today there are still people who live like the Stone Age people. They live in the places that are hard to reach. Because they have met few people from the outside world, they rarely hear of modern inventions. They have not gained ways of doing things from others.

For 25, 000 years, groups of people have lived alone in the middle of Australia. One of thesegroups is the Arunta tribe (部落). They do not know how to farm and how to raise sheep or cattle.

The Aruntas spend most of their time searching for food and water. The men hunt animals with stone-tipped spears. The women and children look for roots, seeds and nuts. They use sticks to dig up the roots. Several Arunta families live together. They have no house. At night, they sleep around small fires.

Now other people are moving into the center of Australia. Soon the Aruntas will no longer be a Stone Age people. Maybe that's a piece of exciting news for them.

    1. (1) The Stone Age people are called so because they ____.
A . gathered seeds and plants to eat B . didn't know how to farm C . used stone tools and arms D . didn't raise animals for food
    2. (2) Why do the Aruntas still live in the way as they lived before?
A . Because they haven't yet learned new ways from other people. B . Because they do not want to change their way of living. C . Because other people are moving in and living with the Aruntas. D . Because each family live alone without knowing others.
    3. (3) From the passage we can know that ____.
A . people in old Australia didn't use stone tools B . the Aruntas do not like to hunt C . everyone in Australia lives in large cities D . the Aruntas don't know much about modern inventions
    4. (4) What's the Aruntas' attitude toward modem life?
      A . positive B . negative C . neutral D . indifferent

Have you been exercising and eating healthy, but when you step on the scale, it says you've gained a few pounds? "That's normal, and it doesn't mean that your workouts are not effective", says Jeffrey A. Dolgan, an exercise physiologist in Miami Beach, Florida.

"A person's scale mass (质量) is a combination of muscle, fat, bone, blood, and even the air that we carry in our lungs," he says. "Immediately after a workout routine, the percentage of mass in each body part can shift as much as 15 percent. So if you're gaining weight while working out and eating healthy, it's probably not the type of weight gain that you think it is."

The scale can't tell you how much of your body weight is muscle or fat, which means if your goal is to improve your fitness level, the scale is not the best tool for measuring improvements. When you start to change your body composition with your workouts— by building more muscle mass and decreasing your body fat — your scale weight may increase, while your body fat percentage may decrease. These changes happen over weeks and months (not hours or days) so the scale is useless when tracking them.

You may argue that you weigh a few pounds less after a high intensity (强度) training class. Don't get too excited— it's just water loss due to sweat. Water makes up approximately 65 to 90 percent of a person's weight, and variation in water content of the human body can move the scale by ten pounds or more from day to day.

So ignore the scale and pay more attention to objective measurement tools like body composition. Keep in mind that if you're exercising but gaining weight, you may actually look slimmer.

    1. (1) What can we know from Dolgan's words from paragraph 2?
A . Your weight changes little during a day. B . Your scale mass is affected by many factors. C . Your workout is not effective if you gain weight. D . Your weight is determined only by muscle and fat.
    2. (2) What will most probably happen after you exercise and eat healthy for 3 months?
A . You will weigh more. B . Your muscle mass will decrcase. C . Your body fat will increase. D . Your body composition will change.
    3. (3) How much water may a man weighing 150 pounds have in his body?
      A . 30 pounds. B . 60 pounds. C . 100 pounds. D . 140 pounds.
    4. (4) Which of the following could be the best title for the text?
A . Why Do We Gain Weight? B . How to Work Out Effectively? C . What Is the Composition of Our Body? D . Why Does My Workout Cause Weight Gain?

Running with a group has numerous benefits, especially when running long distances. But group running also requires that you follow some basic etiquette (礼仪) and behavior rules. Here's advice on running etiquette for group running.

Leave your headphones at home. Sure, music helps push some runners along. However, it's antisocial (不爱交际的) to wear headphones during a group run. It can also be dangerous because listening to music means you'll be less aware of your surroundings.

Don't jingle (发出叮当声). , but you can bet that it will annoy at least one person in your group. You don't want to become known as "The Annoying Loose Change Guy".

Be prepared with what you need. . Carry your own water and food, as well as some cash or a credit card, just in case you need it.

Don't run without considering the safety of others. Not only is it rude to take over a path and block other runners, walkers, or cyclists, but it can be a potential safety risk. To make other runners and cyclists easily pass, make sure you're running no more than two abreast (并排) , especially on busy roads, sidewalks, or paths.  such as running in a clockwise direction on a circular route.

. Runners join groups for the social element, but that doesn't mean they want to hear the same person talk non-stop about their running achievements, injuries, or life problems during every run.

Ask people, especially the new members of the group, questions to give them a chance to speak.

    A. Be silent sometimes.

    B. Show up early or on time for the start of runs.

    C. Don't expect to rely on other runners for supplies.

    D. Even if you know some group members very well.

    E. Be aware of any special rules for running in parks or on paths.

    F. Running with coins or keys in your pocket may not bother you.

    G. Besides, you won't be able to hear instructions from other runners in your group.
