Many middle school students don't like to stay with their parents. They often complain（抱怨）that their parents don't understand them or their parents are too 1 with them. Have you ever heard of the girl called Nancy? Her Chinese name is Fan Yi. Nancy was born in China in 1993 and moved to America with her parents when she was seven. When she got to the United States'she couldn't speak English. However' with the help of her English teacher and her own efforts'she was interested in English little by little. Finally she often got an " A" in English exams.
Nancy began writing Swordbird in English when she was only 10 because of a dream. One night she dreamed that a big white bird was trying to make peace(和平) among some other birds fighting in the forest. When she woke up'she began to write a book called Swordbird. Over the next two years, with the help of her parents' friends and teachers, Nancy's story on peace and conflict（冲突） grew into a novel. Like many people' I have no clear idea about heroes. At some point' we all wonder if we need a hero and what a hero really is.
Although there are a lot of differences in cultures' heroes around the world generally share a number of characteristics(特点) which give us courage and make us want to learn from them. A hero does something worth talking about. A hero has a special story to tell and people think highly of it. But a hero is not just the person with great fame（声誉）.
A hero has powers larger than himself. Some people want to live like a hero' and they have to experience life with new and further meaning. A sure test for would-be heroes is what or whom they serve. What do they want to live and die for? If the answer suggests they serve only their own fame, they may be famous persons but not heroes.
A hero has a vision from the mountaintop. He has the power to move people. He creates new possibilities（可能性）. Without Gandhi' India might still be part of Britain. Without Martin Luther king' Americans might take different buses' eat in different restaurants' go for walks in different parks' and shop in different stores because of the different colours of their skin.
There might be changes in society without a hero' but the speed of change will be rather slow. Thanks to heroes in history, they made the society develop so fast.
Your school days should be the best time in your life. The following ways may help you.
Be active at school. Take an interest in school life. Do difficult things actively. Put up your hands in class. If you are not working or learning' you' re wasting your time at school.
Keep healthy. If you don't eat breakfast' you will be hungry in class. If you don't have enough sleep' you will be sleeping in class. Exercise can make you strong.
Everyone fails some tests' does wrong things and has bad days. Don't make small problems very serious. Don't forget to ask for help. You' re young' and no one thinks you must do everything quite well.
Spend the weekends meaningfully. Don't waste time lying in bed on weekends. Go and play sports' learn to play the piano or help someone with problems. You can read a book' practise English or help your mother with the housework.
