① We wash vegetables before cooking them. And we wash our hands before we start eating. That is because we know washing can clean our food and keep diseases(疾病) away. But do animals like cows, dogs or cats wash their food? No, most animals don't.
② But do you know a kind of animal called raccoons(浣熊)? They are gray or brown in color. They have big ears and small eyes. They live in places where there is water and trees. Usually, they set up home in the trees. They are very lazy(懒惰的). They usually sleep all day.
③ The interesting thing is, raccoons wash their food before eating. And raccoons refuse(拒绝) to eat if they can't find water around. Even if they eat, they don't look too happy. We don't know why they wash the food. It is not because they have a sense(意识) of cleanliness(清洁). They also wash the food in the dirty water!
④ In fact, they wash most of their food in the dirty water. They use their front feet as hands to wash their food. Interesting, right?
