The Amazon Forest in South America is the largest rainforest in the world. It covers five and a half million square kilometres of the Amazon Basin and1 across nine countries. 

The Amazon rainforest is very important because it is home to2 of animals，birds and insects. However，people are destroying the area by3 down many of the trees. This is called "deforestation". Many living things lose4 homes because of deforestation. As a result，the number of kinds of animals，birds，insects and trees in the world 5 . 

We must do our best to protect the Amazon rainforest. 

Mr. Barry didn't want his sofa anymore. Then he put it in the front garden for the rubbish collection to pick up. 

His sofa's name was Darla. Darla was sad that Mr. Barry didn't want her1 the house anymore. 

She sat in the sun，under the trees，and watched the street.2  quiet and sunny it was! Darla had never been outside in her whole life. She liked3 feel of the sun on her. 

A little girl4 red shoes was walking along the street. 

"Hello!" said the little girl， "What are you doing here？Is someone5 house？ 

"I'm going to the rubbish tip，" said Darla sadly. 

"Oh!" said the girl， "Perhaps no one will mind then，if I sit on you？" 

The girl sat on the sofa. She laughed and sang some songs to Darla. 

Soon a boy came past. He stopped6 he saw the girl and Darla. 

"You can7 on it too!" said the girl. 

The boy came to sit on the sofa too. 

Later some birds and a family of ants arrived. It was nice to sit on a sofa in the garden，8  they stayed. 

Mr. Barry came out of his house. "Why are you all on my sofa？" he asked. 

The girl and the boy，the birds and family of ants，all looked up at Mr. Barry. 

Then Mr. Barry laughed， "Is there room on that sofa for9 ？" 

Darla was now an outdoors sofa，and with so10 new friends，trees and the sun，she was the happiest she'd ever been. 

Pat and his friends were playing ball games. When his friend hit the ball，Pat ran after it but he couldn't catch it. When he was going to pick the ball up，he heard the sound of a small bird and1 it next to the ball. The bird had a2 wing so it couldn't fly. Pat decided to take it home. After returning home，he showed the blue bird to his mother and asked if he could keep it. Mother allowed him to keep the bird until it got3 . Pat was very happy. Finally he got his first4 and named her Blue. He quickly went to his room and bandaged（包扎） Blue's5 . Pat wanted to give Blue a new home. He planned to6 a bird cage（笼子）. With his father's help，a bird cage was built. 

Five weeks later Blue got better and was ready to fly. Pat let her fly away. He was happy and sad. But two weeks later，Blue came back with another blue bird. They stayed in the cage，and had three baby birds. 

Unluckily Blue died of a bird disease soon. Pat7 for a few days，but he knew that even though he cries Blue won't come back. Pat8 the three small babies very well. They soon got big and learned to fly. 

Even though the other birds were there，he felt9 about Blue because it was his first beloved pet. He kept in mind that the remaining birds are part of Blue's10 ，and he will take care of them and rejoice in this. 

Trees are pretty much amazing in every way! They have many different kinds，colors，shapes and sizes. They are beautiful，but do you know that trees are helpful too？ They take in harmful gases and provide us with clean oxygen. Wow!

Trees have 4 main parts 

Trees are made up of four main parts：roots，trunk，branches，and leaves. A tree begins at the roots. Roots are usually underground，but sometimes they can be underwater or even found above ground. From the roots，grows the trunk. The trunk rises upward and helps the other parts of the tree grow.  Finally，covering the branches are the leaves that help the tree create energy from the sun. 

Trees can provide food 

When trees look like they aren't doing much，they are working.  Trees are homes and food for birds and other animals. Animals and humans eat fruits，seeds and leaves from trees. 

Trees can help show the direction 

A tree can be used to tell direction.  For example，how the branches of a tree grow can help show direction. Branches that point straight out are likely pointing south. How interesting!

I have a few hobbies，but there is one I like the most，baking（烘焙）. A few times I have sold my baking and made some money. But that is not why I bake. I bake because I love the feel of making people happy with my baking. Sometimes I share my baking with my study group. Everyone loves it，especially Lexi. 

Lexi loves my cookies. However，she is never interested in baking them. Baking to her sounds like too much work. 

I've tried different ways to get Lexi to like baking. I let her try a cookie after I made them，showing her what she can get after finishing baking. She wasn't so sure. 

I tried letting Lexi bake herself to show her how fun it is. Again，she still wasn't sure. 

I tried to let Lexi sell our baking. She did get some money，but she again wasn't sure that she liked baking. 

I was slowly giving up. So I advised to do something relaxing. I asked Lexi to paint with me. Lexi started painting quietly. I found that her paintings looked so great. And I also saw the brightness in her eyes while she was painting. The brightness that I imagine is always in my eyes when I bake. 

"Lexi，" I said gently， "You found your hobby. " 

"I what？" She asked. 

"Your hobby. " 

"Oh. I guess I did，right？Painting. Never thought much of it before. " Lexi answered. 

"You should sell those pictures. They all look great. How about joining me at the School Fair？" 

"That sounds great!" 

For the rest of the week we talked a lot about our plan. I would sell cookies and she would make posters and sell her own paintings at my cookie stand. 

On the day of the School Fair，we were so excited but also very nervous. At the end when we counted our money，we saw we had made 150 yuan. 

"150 yuan!" I said excitedly. 

"Yes!I can get the picture book that I've wanted for so long!!" Lexi replied，also excitedly. 

Later，Lexi got her picture book. Not only that，but we both had our hobbies. 

Here is my favorite water cycle experiment. 

Before the experiment，teach your students about the water cycle and the following words：evaporation，condensation，precipitation and collection. 

Water on Earth keeps going around in the water cycle. When the sun heats the water，some of it turns to a gas （water vapour）. This is evaporation. Then this water vapour rises into the air. 

When the water vapour meets the cold air in the sky， it turns back to water drops and collects in clouds. This is condensation. 

When too many water drops form in a cloud，the cloud gets heavy and the water falls back to the earth as rain or snow. This is precipitation. 

When the water falls back to the earth，it may fall back in the rivers，lakes，oceans or on the land. This is collection. When the sun heats the water，the cycle begins all over again. 

This science experiment will help show the water cycle. 

●Put a small cup in the center of a large bowl. 

●Fill the bowl with water about 2/3 of the way up the cup （do not put water inside the cup）. 

●Cover the bowl with a plastic（塑料的） bag and tie it. 

●Put it outside in a sunny area for a few hours. 

After several hours，the plastic bag will have water drops on it and some of the water will have dropped into the cup. 

This experiment shows the heat of the sun turning the water in the bowl to vapour. The vapour turns back to water drops on the plastic bag. Drops get too heavy and fall back down to the water in the bowl or in the cup just like mountains or land on Earth. 

After the experiment，check students' understanding of the water cycle by asking them to draw a map of the journey of the water in the experiment. 

Once there was a little boy named Timmy. Timmy was b  which meant he couldn't see anything. He always felt sad because he thought he could do n  without being able to see. 

One day，his teacher e  him to try new things. So Jimmy decided to learn how to play the piano. At first，it was difficult because he couldn't see the keys，but he kept practising. Finally，he was able to play a beautiful song. He was so happy that a big s  on his face. 

Jimmy found that not being able to see didn't mean he couldn't do anything. He could still fight a  his weakness and make his dream come true. With hard work and determination，anything is possible!

Then，after completing any electrical work，I must   our workplace.

And I always   and double-check all appliances before leaving the workplace.
