He Travels by Horse
Millions of young people live a normal life. But for 29-year-old Yue Xiaoyun, he has the courage (勇气) to lead a special life. He spent more than half a year traveling from Xinjiang to Chongqing by horse and foot.
After graduating (毕业) from university in 2016, Yue worked in Chongqing, his hometown. However, he didn't feel a sense of achievement from his work. He wanted to take a hard trip and steel (使……坚强) himself through the trip. In May 2021, Yue gave up his work and took a train to Yining, Xinjiang. There, he spent 32,000 yuan buying a horse. He called it Hotpot and he decided to ride it to his hometown.
The pair got across many places, and they traveled about 4,400 km. Such a long trip seemed very interesting, but Yue went through a lot of difficulties along the way. He usually started off at 9:30 a.m. and rode eight to ten hours each day. Most of the time he spent nights in the wild.
Although the trip was difficult, it was meaningful. It made Yue a man with courage and perseverance (毅力)."Life is short and I'm just doing what many others want to do,"he said.
A Robot Dog
A four-legged robot dog is now walking around the ancient (古代的) city Pompeii in Italy. The robot dog's name is Spot, made by an American company. His job is to keep the old city safe and record structural (结构上的) changes of the city over time.
Pompeii, like an open book, offers information on the art, trades, and everyday life of the past. It is a good place for scientists to study. However, there are some relic hunters (文物盗窃者). So, Spot started to work in Pompeii. He can help track down these relic hunters to keep the old city safe.
Scientists also hope Spot will help them learn more about the very old city. Gabriel Zuchtriegel, the director of the Pompeii Archaeological Site, said,"In the past, robots weren't able to play a role in ancient sites (遗址) because of the environment inside and the size of the sites. But Spot can keep an eye on the smallest and darkest spaces. He can run quickly and safely."
